Park University invites applications for a faculty position in sociology (rank of assistant or associate professor). This is a full-time, tenure-track position beginning August 2017.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at the undergraduate level in sociology, perform university and professional service, and engage in scholarship. This position requires proficiency in the online environment.
Duties of the successful candidate include: recruiting and advising students; developing and monitoring curriculum; coordinating textbooks; conducting assessment activities; collaborating with other offices and positions; and service on university-wide committees.
A Ph.D. degree in sociology is required by August 2017. The candidate must also have the ability to engage in scholarship and service. The Search Committee expects serious candidates to have experience in the following areas:
Teaching courses in areas related to public policy such as sociology of the environment, immigration, labor, and quantitative methodology at the undergraduate level.
Teaching traditional age and adult learners.
Using Internet-enhanced delivery methods.
Administrative experience at the department/school/college level.
Cross-sector and interdisciplinary teaching experience in psychology, statistics, environmental sciences would be beneficial to the successful candidate.
In addition, required are strong oral and written communication skills, an excellent understanding of education principles and methodologies, leadership and organizational abilities, and a solid ability to deal with ambiguity in an academic environment.
