Job Summary
The Department of Sociology at Central Washington University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position to begin September 15, 2017. The position is located at the Ellensburg Campus. We seek a broadly trained sociologist with a serious commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting as well as a strong commitment to social justice, diversity, equity and inclusiveness. The position requires the ability to teach courses in crime and deviance and statistics. In addition, all department faculty are expected to contribute to general education courses. The teaching load is 36 credit hours over three quarters (6-7 courses per academic year). Other responsibilities include scholarship activity, student advising, internship supervision, and service to campus and community. Our department takes great pride in preparing Sociology majors and minors for careers and/or post graduate education through small classes, individual attention, and undergraduate research opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
-Ph.D. in sociology required at the time of appointment. (Advanced ABD candidates will be considered).
-Evidence of effective teaching at the university level
-Demonstrated ability to teach in the areas of crime and deviance and statistics
-Evidence of scholarship activity
Preferred Qualifications
-Academic background and expertise to offer courses in one or more of the following areas: social inequality, race and ethnicity
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience
Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment
