ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY
Western Kentucky University (WKU) Department of Sociology invites applications for an Assistant Professor position. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-eligible position to begin August 15, 2017. Review of applications will begin on January 2nd, 2017 and will continue until position is filled.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Sociology, Rural Sociology, Criminology, or Criminal Justice completed by the time of appointment. Primary expectations for the position are for high quality instruction in statistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Sociology Department statistics courses are required for two graduate degrees, six undergraduate majors and three minors within the university. These courses serve approximately 150 students a semester. This position will primarily support this need with the assistance of other departmental faculty. Primary area of specialization is open, although the candidate should also be able to contribute in one or more of the areas of departmental specialization–criminology; inequality and social change; community, environment, and development; family, gender and sexuality; and/or research methods. Familiarity and experience teaching web courses is desirable and a willingness to teach online courses is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, ongoing scholarly research, and involvement in university, community, and professional service activities are expected.
The Department of Sociology offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in both sociology and criminology. The Master of Arts in Criminology is offered completely online, and the sociology and criminology undergraduate degrees can be finished online as well. The department currently has 454 undergrad and graduate majors matriculating through its programs.
