Eastern Washington University (WA) - Lecturer, Children's Studies
The College of Social Sciences at Eastern Washington University invites applications for two 100% Lecturers in Children's Studies to begin Winter 2017. These are non-tenure track positions and eligible for renewal on an annual basis.
The curriculum of this interdisciplinary program provides a strong holistic background in the study of children, from birth to adolescence. Theory and practice, from the disciplines of sociology, psychology, and education, form the basis for this integrated curriculum. Children's studies courses provide foundational and global perspectives of children and childhood. A choice of concentration areas, culminating in a capstone experience and a senior portfolio, allows students to connect effectively with specific career opportunities.

- Child Life Theory, Health and Children, and Children's Loss and Grief, or
- Children's Rights, Infant and Child Development, and Early Learning and Developmental Disabilities
Position One Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach courses within the Children's Studies Program, including but not limited to, Child Life Theory, Health and Children, and Children's Loss and Grief.
- Maintain a teaching load of 45 credits for the academic year.
- Advise students pursuing health-related internship opportunities.
- Willingness and experience teaching online courses. All courses will be online for at least the first two years.
- Provide program-related outreach to community partners.
Position Two Primary Responsibilities:
- Teach courses within the Children's Studies Program, including but not limited to Children's Rights, Infant and Child Development, Early Learning and Developmental Disabilities.
- Maintain a teaching load of 45 credits for the academic year.
- Willingness/ability to travel and teach at the EWU Bellevue campus. This may involve some overnight, evening, and weekend travel.
- Willingness and experience teaching online courses.
- Provide program-related outreach to community partners.

Required Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Social sciences, humanities, or education, with an emphasis related to children/childhood (e.g., Children's Studies, Early Childhood Education, Developmental Psychology, Sociology, Social Work)
- Excellent communication/collaboration skills.
- Teaching experience at the university level, teaching courses in Children's Studies or related disciplines.
- Candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who also offer one or more of the following:
- Experience with advising and/or recruiting college students.
- Active collaboration with outreach projects and community partners.
- Experience working directly with children's programs.
- Experience teaching online courses.
