The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Simpson College, a private, nationally recognized regional college grounded in the liberal arts tradition and affiliated with the United Methodist Church invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. Start date is August 2017. Successful candidates must have a commitment to a liberal arts education, and a willingness to engage students in scholarship, research and/or creative work. The primary responsibilities of the position include a teaching load of 3/3, student advising, and service to the department, college, and respective field. Both traditional classroom and an online environment of teaching are required, with additional teaching opportunities in summer months.
A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Human Services, Sociology, or closely related discipline is required. ABD candidates scheduled to defend the dissertation by the time of appointment will be considered. Practitioners and former practitioners are encouraged to apply.
Areas of specialization:
We are seeking qualified candidates who can teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in criminal justice and sociology majors. Possible areas of specialization of qualified candidates include ability to teach social science research methodology, statistics, grant writing, program evaluation, evidenced based practices or cybercrime.

The letter of application should include a description of teaching philosophy, background and interests, relevant professional and practical experiences, and research interests within a liberal arts institution.
