The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in Medical Sociology/Sociology of Health. The appointment is at the Assistant Professor rank and will begin Fall 2017. UTRGV has 11 colleges and schools offering 61 baccalaureate degrees, 50 master’s degrees, and 4 doctorates in the liberal arts, fine arts, education, sciences, business and entrepreneurship, engineering and computer science, and health affairs and a medical school. The university has nearly 30,000 graduate and undergraduate students, and continues to grow, as it is located in one of the fastest growing regions of the United States. The department is seeking candidates who are committed to UTRGV’s guiding principles which include promoting access to postsecondary education for a diverse student body to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving research institutions in the U.S.A. The department is seeking high quality faculty members who will pursue global excellence in teaching, research, and service, including applied and translational research to address critical local, state, national, and global needs and providing a leadership role in fostering economic and community partnerships to help solve local, state, national, and global problems. Required qualifications for appointment are: 1) earned doctorate from an accredited institution in sociology or closely related field (minimum 18 hours graduate level sociology coursework) at time of appointment (September 1, 2017); 2) demonstrated record and potential in research, publication, and funding; and 3) commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate level teaching.
