The Department of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with specialization in sociology of religion and law/justice. Successful candidates must have a research agenda in at least one of these areas, and must be prepared to teach courses in both. Sociology is located in the School of Social Research and Justice Studies. Sociology faculty participate in the Gender, Race and Identity academic program (http://unr.edu/cla/gri). Candidates with a background in social psychology will have opportunities to participate in the Interdisciplinary Social Psychology Ph.D. Program (http://www.unr.edu/social-psychology) within which the department has a very active role. The teaching load will be two courses per semester and includes teaching undergraduate and graduate students. The position also entails occasional lectures in the team-taught graduate courses of the department. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and seek external funding for an active research program involving graduate students.
Minimum qualifications include Ph.D. in sociology or closely related field, ability to teach sociology of religion and sociology of law/justice, and a strong record of relevant research at time of appointment. Ph.D. must be completed by August 1, 2017. It is desirable that candidates have a history of successful experience in teaching sociology. The applicant must be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Sociology and in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Nevada, Reno.
