I recently interviewed on campus somewhere, and when I filled out the authorization for a background check, I checked a box to request that I get any results emailed to me. I just got an email from the company letting me know that a background check has been requested by the university. Now, some institutions (like my current one) conduct background checks prior to bringing candidates on campus. But in this instance, it seems unlikely that they'd pay for the report unless they planned to make me an offer. Any job market forum wisdom on this? Anyone been tipped off to a coming offer from this sort of thing?
