Has anyone here bombed an interview - and knew it? If so, how have you handled it?
I can't seem to stop thinking about how I should have answered certain questions completely differently, and how I know I wasn't on my best day that day. Non-academic friends have suggested that I contact the people with my "updated answers" to some of their questions, but it seems like a very bad idea to me.

How bad could your answers be that you have thought to update them? Let's put this in perspective. Did you simply draw a blank and say nothing, or ramble aimlessly? Everyone is put on the spot in these.

Learn from your mistakes and move on. It would be good for you to take detailed notes on the questions they asked, so that you can have this info to prepare for your next interview. I know it sucks, but use this as a learning experience and know you will do much better next time around (fingers crossed).

I knew I bombed a phone interview once. It felt bad. Only thing you can do is move on. Live to fight another day. Also I agree, no updated questions

We all bomb interviews. Was it your worst ever? Good-you've got that out of the way and future interviews will go better.
Go have a drink and laugh it off with a friend, who probably won't understand what you see in academia anyway.

Meh, one I thought I bombed I got the job offer, the other I laughed joyously with the SC and was rejected. You never know how it went until later. Maybe they loved you. Maybe they had someone else in mind all along.
Sorry, it sucks, I know. But it's awesome practice (btw, if it's your first, remember: nobody gets their first interview).
