I think they had failed searches last year, but I could be wrong. Probably a 4/4 load job. Any scoop on this job or location is much appreciated.

no failed searches. they had 2 last year, 1 was filled, the other was withdrawn because of funding. 3/3 and course release in first 2 years.

So, the first year is a granted 3/3, and then the second year is a "course release," which amounts to another 3/3?
Then it is 4/4 starting in year 3? I thank the insider for the details and clarification.

a regular teaching load at a CSU is 24 units (4/4, 3 unit courses). In this department there are many courses that are 4 units. Many teach a 3/4, however it 3/4 is then further reduced by an internship class that is co-taught by 5 faculty members and only meets once a month. Therefore the load feels more like a 3/3. The course release (confirmed in the union contract) is 12 units in the first two years in addition to the original course load I just described. So you could come in teaching a 2/2 in the first two years. You can also apply for additional release for research, service, ect release. No doubt you will be doing more teaching here than at an R1 - it is a teaching focused school - but the class sizes are small (25).
