FACULTY POSITION
Assistant Professor in Law and Society- Sage College of Albany, NY
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at The Sage College of Albany invites applicants to apply for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Law and Society, to begin August 2016. The Law and Society program is an exciting interdisciplinary program, integrating the study of law and social organizations, especially in the areas of criminal justice, psychology, sociology, and political science.
A Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field (in hand or expected by May, 2016) is required. Candidates should have background/expertise in at least two of the following areas: Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Technology. Teaching experience is also strongly desired. Candidates must have the ability to perform research-related activities and possess a commitment to teaching excellence as well as scholarship.
An ability to teach undergraduate courses on the role of technology in society is desired (including social science applications of GIS software, “big data,” or the intersection of law and technology). Other specific teaching assessments may include: race and ethnic relations, social inequality, deviant behavior, an interdisciplinary general education course, and courses of specific interest to the candidate. Advisement of students, scholarly work, and college service are also required. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop interdisciplinary courses and collaborative relationships with members of the Interdisciplinary Studies Department and other departments on campus.
The Sage Colleges, located in the Tech Valley Region of New York State, include Russell Sage College for Women, the coeducational Sage College of Albany, and Sage Graduate School.
The Capital District of New York State, cradled between the beautiful Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, has a rich cultural and educational environment as well as endless outdoor recreation year round. Boston, Montreal and New York City are within easy access to the capital region.
