The Department of Sociology at the University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2016. Ideal candidates will be serious educators and scholars with excellent teaching skills and a research agenda with potential for peer-reviewed publications in our discipline. In general, we value broadly trained sociologists, and all faculty teach Introduction to Sociology. The regular teaching load is three courses per semester. Experience with both online and traditional teaching methods is a significant asset. We are specifically interested in applicants with expertise in the field of race and ethnicity and one or more of the following areas: deviance and crime, medical sociology, urban sociology, or other areas that complement or expand the department’s strengths. Experience and interest in applied sociology or social policy is valued. A PhD in Sociology is required by the date of appointment. Applications should include: 1) a cover letter, 2) a curriculum vitae, 3) three letters of recommendation, 4) a copy of graduate transcripts, 5) a writing sample, and 6) evidence of teaching excellence.
