The open search closed just last week but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the timeline on this?

Did they hire for the second social psych position?

I heard that the department already selected a candidate for the second social psych job. They are waiting to get approval from the admin, which should be early this coming week. Then the offer will go out.

If they were planning to offer the second position to someone they interviewed for the first position, what was the point in informing the rest of us that our applications were still considered open?

I'm puzzled by the situation too. Why wouldn't/couldn't they get another line and just offer it to this second person w/out placing new ads and going through the rigamarole of a second search? Have other folks seen this pattern of a second search rather than a (relatively) speedy second offer happen elsewhere?

I heard from a friend of a friend that they will be able to make offers for three different lines, so guessing that the re-opened search is for that third position. Wish all hiring depts could get three lines!

My understanding is that once they received the go-ahead for the two additional lines, the University lawyers said they would have to actually advertise those & go through the whole process again--with the exception that they would not have to re-interview the candidates they brought out the first time, should they want to hire them.
If they did not bring out any new folks to interview for the new lines, I would guess they would just offer from among the folks who interviewed the first time.
Can anyone confirm that they did not bring out any new candidates for the new lines?

Does anyone have info on the remaining positions at SC? Any clues on when the committee will meet or offers will go out?

Word is that they interviewed one additional candidate for the second social psych job. This person replaced the person hired for the first position, so they again have a pool of three. Supposedly the offer goes out this week (if it hasn't already) to their top candidate. As for the open search, the last I heard was that they may not even complete the search this year; they may wait and run it in the fall.

I wonder why they wouldn't complete the search? If they already got the line.

I'm confused. It seems like there were 2 social psych positions and 1 open position. One social psych person has been hired, another is getting an offer soon. And the open search (for which I applied since I'm not a social psych person) hasn't moved yet?
Or, is the open search really another social psych position that they have someone in mind for?
Is this right??
