Were letters automatically requested from all applicants' references? Or does having a letter requested indicate that an applicant has made it past some preliminary screening?

I'm not sure. I submitted and assumed they would be requested automatically upon submission, however my application status said "references not solicited". I emailed my letter writers to confirm. Letters were requested about 24-36 hours later, though.

Yeah, mine were requested about 1.5 days later also. Looking back at the original post, it sounds like letters were likely requested for all applicants.

I'm going to guess that because it's a multidisciplinary search, it might be more slow moving than other searches.

Did the rejection give any indication of how large the applicant pool was?
