Utah State University
Tenure Track Position in the Sociology of Environment & Technology
The Department of Sociology, Social Work & Anthropology at Utah State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment would begin in either August 2016 or January 2017, depending on the availability of the successful candidate. We seek a candidate whose research and teaching interests are focused on themes involving the social dynamics of environment, science and/or technology. We seek candidates with strong theoretical and empirical skills whose research agenda addresses such issues in ways that will complement current faculty expertise in our Environmental & Community graduate specialization area, and who can also contribute to at least one of our other areas of specialization (Labor Markets & Social Policy and Demography). The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses linked both to their areas of expertise and to departmental needs.
Successful candidates must have a PhD in Sociology as of the employment date, and demonstrated accomplishment and/or clear potential for success in undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and extramural funding. Evidence of a program of research conducive to external funding is required, with documented grant-writing experience preferred. The balance among teaching, research, and service will be consistent with a faculty role in a Carnegie Doctoral Extensive research institution.
The Department of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology is housed within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Utah State University. The department serves approximately 150 undergraduate Sociology majors, supports both MS and PhD programs in Sociology, and provides service courses to students throughout the broader university community. Utah State has strong programs in STEM fields with which the successful candidate might find fruitful collaborations.
