What are some typical salaries for post-doc positions? Chronicle has salary information on faculty positions, but I'd like to know what to expect for post-docs. If specificity is required, I'd say at mid-tier or lower top-tier schools. Thanks for your input.

Mine was $45k but the value in experience gained far exceeded the salary. With that, I was at a high tier school though. I've seen others range from $40k to $50k. I took less money, i.e. declined job offers, for the opportunity to work with top scholars for my subject area.

Hmmm... There isn't really a "typical" here. Some postdocs pay into the 30K range, while others are in the high 80K. Most of the more competitive postdocs pay between 40K and 60K. However, you would really need to calculate both benefits (including medical, relocation, and research/travel budget) and duties expected (how many courses, any admin duties, etc.) before you know the real value of the postdoc.

As far as I've seen, even within the same institution and discipline salaries vary. Society of Fellows at some Ivy's are over 60K, more like 70K, whereas minority fellowships are around 40K, maybe with added benefits. But the former are super competitive. Others at elite schools tend to be around 50K and sometimes go down to 40K. I've never seen one below 40K as far as I remember. Teaching loads vary significantly as well.
