The Department of Sociology at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC, invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 15, 2016.
We are seeking candidates who will contribute to East Carolina University’s mission of regional transformation through scholarship, including a willingness to adapt part of their broader research agenda to include research in the coastal plain of the southeastern United States. This could be accomplished through a number of sociological specialty areas including, but not limited to, environmental sociology, community and rural development, poverty and inequality, food and food security, race and ethnic inequality, aging, or health disparities as examples. Scholars who will work collaboratively with faculty in Sociology and related disciplines on campus to address regional issues are particularly valued.
We seek a colleague who will develop a nationally recognized research program, pursue external support to fund their research activities, contribute to graduate (MA) and undergraduate instruction in statistics and quantitative methodology, and perform departmental, university and professional service. Candidates with diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Sociology is required. The successful candidate will have a well-defined research agenda, demonstrate evidence of and/or potential for acquiring external grants to support their research, and show potential to develop a nationally recognized research reputation through high quality publications in scholarly outlets. With respect to teaching, the successful candidate will be committed to developing innovative courses, to effective instruction and to mentoring students. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach quantitative analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels including an MA level introduction to applied multivariate modeling. Qualifying degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
