The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology at Eastern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology, with a focus on Global and Comparative Sociology, at the rank of Assistant Professor and a start of August 2016. SAC is an interdisciplinary department that serves the needs of a diverse student population.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
(*) Teach contractual load of undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned by the department or school.
(*) Assign and submit grades in accordance with established University schedules.
(*) Keep posted office hours during the week which are scheduled at times most beneficial to students.
(*) Provide academic advising to students, if applicable.
(*) Serve on search committees for hiring of new faculty members, departmental committees and other service committees across the university.
(*) Participate in activities such as student registration, orientation, convocations and commencements.
(*) Attend and participate in scheduled departmental meetings and functions.
(*) Provide other support service to the department, college and/or university, if applicable.
(*) Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their respective disciplines.
(*) Engage in pursuits that help to further organize and contribute to growth of the body of knowledge in their respective disciplines, and/or to explore interdisciplinary implications.
(*) Perform related Departmental duties as required.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between EMU and the EMU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Qualifications:
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Sociology by the end of August 2016 as well as teaching and research experience in global sociology and/or international comparative sociology. We seek candidates who study economic, political, cultural and environmental globalization processes from a sociological perspective and/or those with expertise in international comparative sociology. Examples of subareas of expertise in international comparative sociology that may be given preference include health and well-being, aging, racial and cultural studies, and family sociology.
Candidates should have an active international research agenda.
The applicant should demonstrate experience or interest in global learning, internationalization of the curriculum, study abroad programs, and working with international students.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the both the general and applied sociology undergraduate and graduate programs by participating in curriculum design and by developing electives in the area of global and comparative sociology. For example, they will be expected to actively contribute to the Masters in Sociology program, possibly with an emphasis on globalization. They will also be expected to contribute to the core undergraduate program and the University's general education program by teaching introductory sociology and by developing a global sociology course.
