..I am also interested to hear whether anyone on this board applied for the position and did NOT get the request today; if there are several such people, then it would be safe to say that some soot of sorting has taken place.

Just as a note, I was not notified that my letters were requested, but my advisor told me they requested them from her. So, I think letters can be requested either way (probably depending on whether or not one used interfolio or not).

Just noticed that this Loyola Chicago job ad was re-posted today at chroniclevitae.com (https://chroniclevitae.com/jobs/0000909632-01). Maybe they (the department or administration) is not completely satisfied with their applicant pool... anyone have insight into this?

So it's apparently a narrowing of the applicant pool.

No reference requests for me either. Sincere congrats to those who did and therefore still have the hope alive!

Disappointingly for me, no reference requests here. That would be a great job in a great city for the right person--good luck!

Maybe they (the department or administration) is not completely satisfied with their applicant pool... anyone have insight into this? The re-posting of job ads happens fairly regularly, and it's often initiated by the jobsite (in this case Vitae). Although it's possible that Loyola Chicago wants to continue receiving apps, it's just as likely that the re-post was simply system generated.

I agree with "repost" above. I think the repost is system generated. FWIW, It's happened to me a couple of times that I've inquired about a position that I've seen reposted, thinking that perhaps the deadline had been changed and/or that the committee wasn't satisfied with the applicant pool. In both cases I was informed that the search process was already at an advanced stage (short-list/finalists).

I just got a formal rejection via email. Good on them for letting folks know. There are already flyouts for loads of schools I applied to and heard nothing from. We shouldn't have to refresh rumor boards to know whether we've been taken out of contention or not...

We shouldn't have to refresh rumor boards to know whether we've been taken out of contention or not... I also got a nicely worded letter of rejection from the department. This should obviously be standard practice for departments. I have absolutely no idea why it is not. Leaving people hanging endlessly, as is typical, is nothing short of barbaric.

I like how the rejection letter ended with: "I thought you would want and deserve a more timely response. Again, thank you for your interest and I am sorry I cannot bring better news."
Yes, this should be a standard practice.

Yes, this should be a standard practice. This has gotta be the nicest general rejection I've ever seen (only received something similar when I actually interviewed for a job). Kudos to Loyola.
