William Paterson University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Sociology to start Fall 2016. The department houses undergraduate majors in both Criminology and Criminal Justice and Sociology and a master’s program in Applied Sociology. The position will primarily serve the Criminology and Criminal Justice program and will also provide curricular support for a related undergraduate major in Legal Studies in the department of Political Science. The successful candidate will teach and develop courses to serve the Criminology and Criminal Justice major, the Legal Studies major, and also be able and willing to teach Research Methods and/or Data
Analysis. All areas of specialization in criminology and criminal justice that add to the department’s current offerings and serve the related Legal Studies program will be considered, with strong preference for research interests and teaching experience in the areas of white-collar crime, terrorism and global security, cybercrime, the courts, victims and victimology, criminal jurisprudence, or human trafficking.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to pursuing an active research agenda, and to being engaged in service to the department and the campus community. A Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field, is required. A J.D. is not an appropriate terminal degree for this position. Advanced ABD candidates who meet all other criteria may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
