The Department of Sociology at Georgia State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in urban sociology with a substantive focus on globalization: specifically the effects of global forces on urban patterns, inequality, political organization, and social life beginning in August 2016.
A successful candidate for this position must have a demonstrated research agenda that has the potential to lead to external funding. Located in the heart of Atlanta, we are a Ph.D. granting department with a research active faculty and a diverse graduate and undergraduate student body. We enthusiastically encourage applications from minority candidates. You can learn more about our department at www.gsu.edu/sociology.
Applicants should submit: 1) a letter outlining their qualifications; 2) a curriculum vitae; 3) two samples of their scholarly work; 4) evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., course syllabi, student evaluations, and statement of teaching philosophy); and 5) three letters of recommendation. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment. An offer of employment will be conditional on background verification.
Please email materials to sociologysearch@gsu.edu. If emailing materials is not possible, please send hard copy materials to Deirdre Oakley, Professor, Georgia State University, Department of Sociology, P.O. Box 5020, Atlanta, GA 30302-5020.
