The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a continuing Lecturer position. The hiring date is July 1st, 2016. Applications will be reviewed as they are received. The closing date for applications to be fully considered is October 25, 2015.
Non-tenure track Continuing Lecturer combining teaching and academic advising. The position is responsible for providing advisement for new, transfer, and continuing students on major, minor, and general academic requirements. The advisor serves as a resource for new and current students to assure that they are making timely progress toward degree completion. The advisor will be involved in program design and implementation relating to all of these activities. The position will be responsible for teaching lower division, required Criminal Justice courses, with a 4-4 teaching load that will be reduced as necessary for undergraduate academic advising duties.
In accordance with the University’s mission as a land grant, tier one research institution, Lecturers are expected to teach at the undergraduate level and to be committed to professional, university, and community service. The university is an integral part of the Reno-Sparks metropolitan community which has a population of over 400,000 and is situated in northwestern Nevada with easy access to the capital, Carson City, the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Lake Tahoe, as well as Sacramento and San Francisco. The area is known for its year-round cultural and outdoor activities.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a minimum of 1) a MS or MA in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field, or 2) a J.D. The degree must be completed by July 1, 2016.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong preference given to applicants with successful experience teaching in-person required lower division Criminal Justice courses, academic advising experience, and knowledge of instructional and advising technology.
