Position Summary: The Department of Sociology in the College of Social Sciences at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank with a Fall 2016 start date. We seek an individual who: 1) excels in undergraduate teaching; 2) conducts scholarly and applied research; and 3) engages in service-related activities. Regular responsibilities involve teaching (may include web-based instruction), research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as advising students and engaging in service at all levels of the university. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
Required Education: An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Sociology from an accredited institution is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, the doctorate must be completed prior to the date of appointment (08/15/2016).
Required Experience: 1) Evidence of success in scholarly research and teaching experience; and 2) ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications: Expertise and demonstrated background in one or both of the ranked areas: 1) quantitative research methods/social statistics; 2) sociological theory (classical and/or contemporary). Substantive area of specialization is open.
