California State University, San Bernardino. The Department of Sociology seeks an experienced administrator with an established record of scholarly research and teaching excellence for the position of Department Chair beginning September 15, 2016. The Chair is expected to provide leadership in facilitating long-term planning for professional involvement and development of the faculty and the Department, and mentor faculty in effectively meeting their responsibilities in scholarship, teaching, service, budget management, and strategic planning.
The successful candidate will provide responsible and professional leadership in managing the day-to-day operational needs of the department, including supervision of support staff, evaluating and mentoring faculty, fiscal management and allocating facilities and equipment for teaching, research and service activities. The Chair will represent the Department and maintain positive public relations with on and off-campus entities and have a broad array of experience, skills and abilities.
Upon submission of application, applicants are asked to submit a letter of interest that describes 1) academic administrative experience and philosophy, 2) teaching experience and philosophy and 3) research and/or scholarship record and future interests. In addition, applicants are asked to submit a vita, copy transcripts and names and full contact information of three references.
The Sociology Department is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and offers Bachelor of Arts degrees in Sociology and Sociology-Social Services Track. The department has 12 full-time tenure track faculty members and over 450 undergraduate majors. Areas of sociological specialization are open.
