The Department of Sociology at California State University-Dominguez Hills invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor with specialization in one or more of the following areas, Sociology of the Family and Aging and the Life Course, an emphasis on racial minorities is preferred. Secondary emphasis may include: race relations, community health, immigration, and/or social inequality. Experience in working with a population of students such as ours at CSUDH, which is a federally recognized Minority Serving Institution, is highly preferred. Given the university and departmental commitment to serve our communities, special consideration will be given to candidates whose scholarship is relevant to urban environments and reflects working with diverse community organizations. A critical dimension of this position is an understanding of the complex relationships of race, class, gender, sexuality and citizenship. The Sociology Department at CSUDH builds its academic programs around "Sociology in Service to Community. Thus, ideal applicants are those who engage undergraduate and graduate students in research and service learning Grant writing experience is a plus.

Teaching expectations include undergraduate and graduate level courses in the following areas, Family, Aging, and Social Agencies. Faculty will have the opportunity to develop more advanced courses that involve internships and research with community based organizations. Given our student population, candidates teaching methods must address issues of academic preparation by providing structured course materials and hands-on teaching strategies. The Sociology Department requires faculty to provide academic advisement, participate in department and university service, and to develop strong scholarly research resulting in scholarly publications.

Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD in Sociology or a closely related field at the time of the appointment.
Demonstrate ability to provide high quality curricular and instructional service to students.
Demonstrate an active research agenda.
Demonstrate commitment to help build our sociology in service to community vision within the department, the university, and the larger community.

CSU Dominguez Hills is a comprehensive public university located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
