UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LA CROSSE: Do you want to share your curiosity for understanding the social world with motivated students? The Department of Sociology invites applicants for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Sociology position to begin August 2016. We seek applications from individuals who will hold a Ph.D. in Sociology by time of appointment. Applicants from a closely related field will be considered, provided they can demonstrate the ability to teach core sociological courses.
The successful candidate will be required to teach a general education course on race and a course on social theory for our majors and minors, and will expected to teach courses in their area of specialization. Area of specialization is open, however preference may be given to candidates who can contribute to our program through a focus on applied sociology, sociological practice, community engagement and/or social inequalities.
The successful candidate will be foremost an inspirational teacher, role model, and mentor to students with varying career goals. They must express their dedication to high quality undergraduate education and have the experience necessary to supervise and mentor undergraduate students. Candidates who have experience with a variety of teaching methods, have knowledge of or experience working with culturally diverse groups, have the potential to obtain research funding and have a strong desire to incorporate undergraduate students in their research activities are preferred.
Faculty at UW-L teach 12 hours (4 courses/3 preparations) per semester.

The Sociology Program serves 150 sociology majors, 85 sociology minors, and an interdisciplinary Criminal Justice minor with 100 students. The program is built around a strong core of foundational courses with the expectation of close student-instructor interaction, opportunities for in-depth participation by our students in all aspects of sociological research, and internship experiences.
