The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position in Sociology at the level of Assistant Professor (Ph.D. expected prior to or shortly after time of hire) to begin fall semester 2016. We seek a scholar of social movements, broadly considered, preferably taking an intersectional approach to issues of power, politics, and justice. The successful candidate will contribute to one or more of the required courses in our sociology curriculum and will also have the opportunity to offer elective courses in their area of specialization. All Colgate University faculty are expected to participate in all-university programs, which includes the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.
Review of applications will begin September 1, 2015, and continue until the position is filled. All applications should include: a cover letter specifying the applicant’s interest in the position and how that interest intersects with the applicant’s teaching and research experiences, a C.V., one article-length writing sample, and three letters of recommendation (ideally, at least one letter will address the candidate's teaching qualifications). Sample syllabi and other evidence of strong teaching experience are welcome. Colgate strives to be a community supportive of diverse perspectives and identities. Candidates should describe in their cover letter their approach to teaching and/or scholarship in a diverse and inclusive educational environment. All application materials should be submitted through: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/5633.
