The Social Policy job has been posted here: utoronto.taleo.net/careersection/10050/jobdetail.ftl?job=1500812Closing Date Sept. 17 "The Department of Sociology, University of Toronto, invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Social Policy. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2016. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field by the date of the appointment or shortly thereafter. Successful candidates will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, externally funded research program. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, letters of reference and the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application. Candidates also must have a record of excellence in research as demonstrated by publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals, presentations at significant conferences, and strong endorsements by referees. The successful candidate should complement our departmental strengths, but we are especially interested in those doing work at the intersection of political sociology and social inequality—particularly as these relate to social institutions (state and political institutions, economy, welfare, gender, family, health, education, and so on). Candidates who incorporate comparative studies of state-level policy or social institutions and/or those whose existing or future research can speak to the Canadian social and political context are encouraged to apply."

I heard that the demography line is also a "family" search, too.

I have heard that that most Canadian TT jobs are 12 months appointments. Does this mean that office presence is expected during the summer when faculty are not teaching?

Nope. I work in Canada and it's true in the sense that we're paid on a 12-month calendar ("summer salary" doesn't exist the way that it does in the U.S.). But, I don't see any of my colleagues between about June 1 and August 15 or so. Some people are out collecting data (wherever), others are vacationing. But nobody is around.

Also, the teaching calendar at University of Toronto runs from September to late March/early April. It's not uncommon for faculty to take off from April-August or September.
