The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities offers Honours Bachelor of Arts degrees in Communication, Community Development, Criminology and Justice Studies, Forensic Psychology, Legal Studies, Public Policy, Masters of Arts (MA) in Criminology and Forensic Psychology and PhD in Forensic Psychology. The members of the Faculty have distinguished national and international reputations as researchers committed to high-quality research. They conduct collaborative research with the faculty, with other faculties and universities, and in the local and greater Toronto communities. UOIT is committed to a technology-enhanced Mobile Learning environment in which every student uses a laptop computer, and all faculty members teach using a laptop computer.
The Faculty of Social Science and Humanities invites applications for a Lecturer in the Criminology and Justice Program. The successful candidate will be expected to follow an 80% teaching and 20% service workload each year beginning September 2015.
Duties will include preparing and delivering lecture and tutorials, preparing and marking assignments, tests and examinations, responding to student inquiries, maintaining regular office hours, and invigilating tests and examinations.
Required Skills
The successful candidate will possess a PhD (or ABD) in any area related to Criminology and Sociology. The successful candidate will teach various courses related to policing. The Criminology and Justice program is particularly interested in a candidate who can teach courses on policing as well as general research methods and introductory statistics. The faculty member will be expected to focus on “excellence” in teaching and learning, an important element of UOIT’s academic mission.
Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students are essential.
Required Experience
In keeping with our technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, strong computer skills are essential, and experience with Blackboard is an asset. In addition, a proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies is required as is evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment.
This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website.
