The mission of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) is to lead scientific research to improve minority health and eliminate health disparities. The NIMHD Division of Intramural Research (DIR) supports integrative and multidisciplinary research focused on the basic, clinical/translational, and social/behavioral sciences. The IRP research agenda addresses a wide array of health problems that disproportionately affect health disparity populations.
The NIMHD DIR Social Behavioral Group has an opening for one (1) postdoctoral position in Bethesda, Maryland. One of our research goals is to conduct research on social, behavioral and population factors related to minority health and health disparities, and to develop and test interventions to modify these factors to reduce such disparities.
Applicants will work with investigators in the Division of Intramural Research (primarily Dr. Kelvin Choi) conducting research on tobacco use disparities, tobacco marketing and counter marketing using qualitative and quantitative, observational and experimental methodologies. There will be opportunities to collaborate with investigators at other NIH Institutes/Center as well as academic institutes. Applicants will conduct data analysis, and prepare presentations and publications under the supervision of the investigators. Salary will be set commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
Position credentials and experience: PhD in Social & Behavioral Science and Population Science from an accredited college or university. Expertise in sociology, social psychology, health communication, marketing, and advertising is strongly preferred. Previous postdoctoral experience preferred (< 5 years), but not necessary. Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g, SAS, Stata, R or Mplus) is required. Experience with geocoding software (e.g., ArcGIS) is strongly preferred. Qualitative research experience is also preferred. Applicants should also be interested in social, behavioral, and/or population factors related to minority health and health disparities.
To Apply
Applicants should send curriculum vitae, a brief description of research interests, and three letters of references to: Dr. Kelvin Choi: kelvin.choi@nih.gov.
The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
