The Denison University Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for one tenure track Sociologist at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2016. We seek a Sociologist with an active and engaging United States-focused research agenda situated within a global perspective, skills in field/qualitative research methods, and a strong commitment to liberal arts education. Candidates must be willing to teach in a merged undergraduate Sociology/Anthropology curriculum that emphasizes theory and research methods. Candidates must have the desire and ability to teach introductory level courses including an introductory Sociology/Anthropology course (People, Culture and Society), field/qualitative research methods and data analysis, and advanced courses reflecting both the candidate's expertise and the needs of the Department.
Candidates must demonstrate their contributions and/or potential to contribute to diversity through teaching, research, and/or service/leadership. Successful candidates are expected to maintain a productive, ongoing research program and contribute to the continued growth of the department, the college, and the broader scholarly community. The Ph.D. in Sociology is required by August 2016. Our department is currently home to 3 Anthropologists and 3 Sociologists. The typical teaching load is 5 courses per year. Denison offers extensive support for junior faculty, including competitive professional-development funding, pre-tenure research leave after a successful third-year review, opportunities for student-faculty research collaboration, and a range of workshops and mentoring programs to develop our strengths as teacher-scholars. Completed applications received by October 1, 2015 will receive full consideration.
Inquiries should be sent to Department Chair Anita Waters at waters@denison.edu. We will conduct initial interviews for interested candidates at the ASA annual meeting in Chicago in August 2015. It is not necessary to participate in an interview at the annual meeting to be considered an applicant for the position.
