The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship beginning September 1, 2016. We seek an individual with a primary expertise in classical and contemporary sociological theory. In addition to sociological theory, the successful candidate will be required to teach Introduction to Sociology and a range of courses in their substantive areas of expertise. We invite applications from individuals who have an active research agenda in topical fields that complement those of permanent department faculty while also connecting to larger College initiatives such as global engagement, visuality, and/or civic engagement. The individual we seek is dedicated to excellent teaching in a liberal arts environment, welcomes opportunities to work with a diverse student body, and is committed to establishing collegial relationships with both faculty and students across the college. Strong research credentials and a promising scholarly agenda are essential; a Ph.D. in Sociology completed by September 1, 2016 is preferred.
To apply, please visit the Carleton College website at jobs.carleton.edu to complete the online application, including a letter of intent, c.v., teaching statement, and contact information for three references.
Review of applications begins on July 15, 2015 and preliminary interviews will be conducted at the 2015 American Sociological Association Annual meetings in Chicago. Candidates who have questions about the position are welcome to contact Professor Annette Nierobisz, Chair of the Department (anierobi@carleton.edu).
Carleton College is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. We are committed to developing our faculty to better reflect the diversity of our student body and American society. Women and members of minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Carleton College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, status with regard to public assistance, disability, or age in providing employment or access to its educational facilities and activities.
I've moved several posts here to the Status of Search thread since Carleton had an early deadline and conducted more serious interviews at ASA.
