This year there have been a number of failed searches. I thought I'd try to create a thread where people listed the failed searches where they know the reason for (i.e., not just if the search failed, but why). It seems to be there are two types of failed searches: one where the department makes offers and people decline, and ones where the department chooses not to offer it to anyone. And it seems like these are based on mismatches of different kinds (candidates not realizing how competitive they were and applying "below" them only to reject it versus departments not realizing they weren't as attractive as they thought and couldn't get the types of candidates they wanted). So if you know of a failed search, and the actual reason for it failing, please post here (note that I am talking about failed searches - i.e., the department tried to fill it, not searches that were cancelled for budgetary reasons). I'll start with the ones I saw the reason posted here:
Made offers and all were rejected: Rhode Island College U of Richmond
Made no offers: Stetson

Duke's race search failed because all offers were rejected.

Were these failed? I know they were looking for TT lines and then recently they've been trying to fill VAPs for the 2015-2016 year. There was another post saying they'd be back trying to get two TT lines starting Fall 2016. Does anyone know what's going on here?

Kenyon's search failed last year and they seem to be running it again. Any info on what happened?
