See details below. Luckily it doesn't include a J-term so you get that month to yourself! Although I don't work there, I'm familiar with the school - I might be able to answer questions you have in a private message. gustavus.edu/humanresources/employment/#j1207Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a one-year position of full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology to begin September 1, 2015. Minimum Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in Sociology, but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in teaching. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential. Preferred Qualifications: We are interested in applicants who will complement our commitment to students and faculty from diverse cultural groups, and who will diversify the expertise and experiences represented in the department. Major/Essential Functions: The teaching load will be six semester courses (3 Fall and 3 Spring). Primary teaching responsibilities will include Sociological Theory, two sections of Social Problems (and possibly a section of Principles of Sociology), and three (or two) other topical area courses, preferably from the following list, but other areas of specialty would also be welcome: Race and Ethnicity, Social Welfare, Community, Gerontology, Immigration Studies, Urban Studies, and Sociology of Education.

Post by 1 year for sure? on Apr 18, 2015 13:49:56 GMT -5
Anyone know if this is a replacement for sabbatical, etc.? Or is there a chance this could extend beyond one year?

I'm not there, so I don't know for sure, but they only have two full-time sociologists right now. The third full-time sociologist retired at the end of 2012-13 and after that there was a VAP for the first year and then two adjuncts for the next year.
They could be trying to get a TT line, but who knows. It all comes down to funding I suppose.
