VENT - it is infuriating when admin assistants dont answer the phone. if ive called once an hour or so all business day, for multiple business days and your voice mail, which i know have memorized due to sheer overexposure, doesn't say youre away on holiday then you are just not answering the phone, i.e., youre not doing your job. yes i could send an email, but at this point its just the principle of the thing because I've been an admin assistant: Prior to going to grad school I worked as the secretary and was later promoted to office manager in a college admisions office, so yes i know admins get tired of the endlessly ringing phone. but you know what, answering it is your JOB so DO IT! As a prof get tired of students asking "what did I miss" when they skip class and (at the end of the semester after blowing off the class for four months) "can I do extra credit to pull my grade up?" But I ANSWER them because its part of my JOB. I use to get so mad in my old job when I'd route a call to someone else in my office who was SITTING RIGHT THERE, they would not answer it, and it would bounce back to me making me have to lie to the caller that "I'm sorry s/he must be on the other line or away from his/her desk." No they arent, they are on Facebook posting pictures of their dog! Just. So. FRUSTRATING!
