Can post-campus visit thank-you's be sent by email or do they have to be by mail? If mail--thank you cards or business letter format? Thanks!

But as someone who has just served on a search committee, I have to say that whether or not I received a thank you note after the interview really didn't matter to me.

IMO, mail copies are overkill and signal a lack of professionalization. Short e-mails are typically considered polite and generally expected. it is unlikely that either strategy will affect whether you get an offer.

Mail takes too long and will leave some people wondering why you are so rude that you didn't send a thank-you email. By the time it comes in the mail, some damage has been done (they've already thought bad thoughts about you). Send email. Many more people care than don't care.
