This job was posted in the ASA Job Bank earlier this week. It is a full-time, non-tenure, renewable position for a Assistant Professor of Teaching with a 3-3 load and two preps each semester. Area of specialization is open. Turnaround is quick.
The Georgetown University Department of Sociology seeks an excellent teacher to fill a non-tenurable position beginning in Fall 2015. While not a tenure-track line, the position is for an Assistant Professor of Teaching, a 2-year post with potential for renewal. The Department offers an undergraduate major and minor in Sociology, and the teaching load for this position is 3-3 – but only two preps within a given semester. Some departmental service is also expected of the successful candidate. While specialization areas are open, we will favor applicants able to provide regular instruction in the following course topics: introductory; political sociology; social movements; immigration; culture; new technologies; or economic sociology. Candidates may also get special consideration for readiness to offer courses which entail community-based learning in the D.C. metro area.
Georgetown University is a Catholic and Jesuit, student-centered research university and is also an EEO/AA Employer. We are committed to the goals of increasing faculty diversity and strengthening the university’s studies of African Americans, Latinos/-as, and Asian Americans. Candidates who can help us advance these goals will be given special consideration. We especially encourage applications from members of all underrepresented groups, including women, people of color, veterans, persons with disabilities, and Jesuits.
Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications. Your own application should include a cover letter including a teaching statement, a c.v., at least two (2) course-syllabuses, and evidence of teaching excellence. Please also arrange for at least two (2) recommendation letters to be sent to us as well. To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by March 29th. Review of applications will continue until suitable candidates are identified. Applicants must have successfully defended their dissertations before August 1, 2015. Please have all materials submitted electronically to the following site:
