The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor rank in the area of the sociology of health to begin in the Fall semester of 2015. All methodologies are welcome. Expertise in demography, border sociology, the family, religion, the sociology of race/ethnicity, or Latina/o sociology is particularly welcome.
Required qualifications for appointment are: 1) earned doctorate in sociology or a closely related field; 2) demonstrated record and potential in research, publication, and funding; and 3) commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate level teaching. ABDs may be considered, but a conferred doctorate by September 1, 2015 is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates must meet the institutional requirements for tenure to be considered for the position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

UTRGV was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 and brings together the assets and resources of UT Pan American and UT Brownsville. The new university will also be home to a School of Medicine that will open in 2016. UTRGV is in the middle of one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, the southern tip of Texas known as the Rio Grande Valley.
