My understanding was that the Gero position was already offered and under negotiation in late March. So, would this information suggest the Gero person was ultimately not hired either? (And the open position was not offered as of yet)?

No idea. My impression in March was that there was a freeze on new lines but that searches authorized to continue would go forward. New info suggests that the freeze expanded to already authorized searches. However, the lines at CCSU were both new TT lines, whereas my understanding of the SoConn line was that it is a replacement line, so that might make a difference. However, this is almost pure speculation. The open TT line at Central is a replacement hire.

It wasn't totally clear the line of funding for the open search. Gero was totally new, and I was told it was tabled, by the chair of the SC. They had hoped to have an offer out in April, not March. It is totally possible that I was the second choice candidate and instead of rejecting me outright they blamed hiring freeze, or after the first choice said no they tabled it instead of hiring me. Unlike a lot of folks trolling these boards, I don't have a whole lotta hubris. Just disappointed on that one because it seemed like a great department and a great and growing gero program in the same region in which I grew up, so a place to which I'd happily move. Oh well, should have another pub out by next fall and will be in a better market position if they really did just table it. ::shrug::
