I have always been curious about the interview process at CCs. I did not apply to SBCC, but have applied to many other CCs in California. I always wonder the exact purpose of the second round of interviews. Are the final three candidates ranked? If so, I doubt the President/Deans would overturn the committees recommendation after the second interview. Are the second and third ranked candidates just wasting their time? OR, are the top three candidates listed in alphabetical order, ranked even, simply as the best three from the initial interviews, and the President/Deans make the final decision based on committee comments? I have been called for second interviews in Cali and I always assumed, because I was given one or two time options for the interview (not three which would have meant I was the first one called), that I was the second/third ranked candidate. So take SBCC as an example, what's up with a second interview? Can't they just name a #1 candidate after the first round? What are others experiences with this?

In my experience, the three candidates were not ranked. They were given to the presidents/deans simply as the best three. They were contacted by phone in alphabetical order for the second interview. Not sure how much the president/deans include the committee in the final decision, but they are probably aware of their preferences.
