I was going to apply, but then I realized the average house costs $650,000 in Santa Barbara.

That is very true. I wonder what it's like to teach at a community college there.

I wanted to apply to but couldn't afford to pay to visit campus twice for visits. The posting said that you visit first and do a teaching demo and interview with faculty and then you come back to meet the dean and president on a separate visit. They don't cover for travel expenses for interviews To bad though the campus look freaking awesome! Literally overlooking the ocean. And it is routinely listed as the top community college in the country.

UCSB has to do all kinds of crazy stuff with faculty housing and mortgages to make living possible there. I wonder if the City College does anything to help faculty. Or do faculty have to live in Isla Vista with the undergrads?

A lot of community college interviews are like that, unfortunately. Where did you find information about "top" community colleges?

I applied. I've heard nothing. However, my guess is they will hire someone internally (current adjunct) or someone from the UC or CSU system. That's usually what happens at CC's in Cali. Plus, toally $$$$$$$$ to live there.

Geez, Santa Barbara is so nice. I was student at SBCC back in the earlier 2000s when Santa Barbara was still a livable city. As others have commented, this is no longer the case. I have friends who could only afford a $300,000 double-wide trailer in the area.
