With the proposed $300M budget cuts from the state to the University of Wisconsin System, what is happening with all the searches? I think Madison, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, Whitewater, and Stevens Point all had active searches for starting fall 2015...

Proposed cuts. Searches all likely still on. When will they elect a new governor up there?

UW Madison's search is still going on and will go on.
Oshkosh already signed someone.
Whitewater seemed to have stopped their search months ago, but that was before the proposed cuts.
You from Michigan or something?

I don't think that the original poster's question is as preposterous as some are making it out to be. I have heard that multiple UW campuses have instituted hiring freezes in response to the Guv's proposed state budget and have notified staff (and faculty?) of possible layoffs. It also doesn't matter if someone is 'signed.' There are clauses in just about every academic contract which protect the institution and make it possible for the contract to be terminated or nullified (or whatever the legalese is) if there are extenuating circumstances (such as anticipated budget shortfalls).

^ This. Im an adjunct at a small regional uw and my chair confirmed today that my contract wont be renewed nor will they be able to hire in the immediate future like they were hoping.
