The Department of Sociology at Sam Houston State University announces an opening for a nine-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2015. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, maintain an active research program, and provide service to the university and the discipline. We are especially interested in candidates who have a research focus in aging and gerontology and/or demography. Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to teach research methods and statistics.
Applicants must have a research agenda leading to publications in refereed journals and the potential to acquire extramural funding. Evidence of excellence (or the promise of excellence) in teaching effectiveness is also required. The department offers several undergraduate courses online and the Masters of Arts program is completely online.
Review of applications will begin February 26, 2015, and continue until the position is filled. Applications must be complete and include a cover letter detailing the applicant’s qualifications, relevant experience, and interest in the position. In addition, the application must include a curriculum vitae, writing sample, teaching portfolio, official university transcripts, and the contact information of three professional references. References will not be contacted until the advanced stages of screening. Questions about the position should be directed to the chair of the search committee: Dr. Jason Konefal (936-294-1511; jtk007@shsu.edu).
