Job Title: Sociology-Social Stratification (Assistant Professor)
Salary: Depends on Qualifications
Job Type: Probationary
Location: Winona, Minnesota
Responsibilities
• The candidate will initially teach four sections of Introduction to Sociology (SOC 150) and/or Social Problems (SOC 216) each year, and four sections each year of either Social Class and Power (SOC 431), Social Statistics, Race Relations and Minority Groups (SOC 423) and/or Sociology of Gender and Sexuality (SOC 412). Future teaching may vary given the needs of the department.
• The candidate will participate in university and department committees as appropriate.
• The candidate will engage in scholarly research.
• The candidate will engage in academic advising.
Minimum Qualifications:
• This position requires a Ph.D. in Sociology at the time of hire.
• This position requires a demonstrated interest in Social Stratification, as evidenced by any of the following: (1) Experience teaching Social Stratification, (2) Publications within the subdiscipline of Social Stratification, (3) Conference presentation within the subdiscipline of Social Stratification, (4) Doctoral concentration in Social Stratification, and/or (5) Three or more semesters of graduate level Social Stratification coursework.
Preferred Qualifications:
• The candidate will have: (1) o Relevant teaching experience at the college level, including experience teaching Social Stratification, (2) Relevant teaching experience at the college level, including experience teaching Social Statistics, (3) Quality graduate coursework, (4) Research experience, and (5) Relevant non-academic and/or professional experience
• The candidate will possess: (1) Leadership ability, (2) Effective communication skills, (3) Experience working with classroom technology, and (4) Innovative teaching methods.
The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
