Alright, time to start thinking outside academia. And I'm not talking think tank, non-profit, etc. (a.k.a. the obvious things a PhD qualifies you for).
What's Plan B? So far I've seriously considered:
teaching at a fancy private school (gotta pay off those loans) owning a B&B and hosting writing retreats (grad students get a discount, obvi)
...and that's as far as I've got.

Now, there is one obvious thing that a PhD qualifies you for that you've left out, and that is frequently ignored by sociologists:
For profit private policy evaluation and consulting firms. Check out the jobs page in the American Evaluation Association and you may find a lot of those.

My plan b is to get a university admin job in either an atheltic-academic support department or a university's study abroad office. I have experience working part time at the former while getting my masters and at the latter while gettting my PhD. Id rather an academic job since i like reaseach and teaching, but if push comes to shove Ill switch to admin and maybe after awhile there ask the soc department if I can teach a class every now and then or collaborate on a small project. So not ideal, but thats my back up.

Be a Deanlet or Deanling. Judging by the ones at my home institution, they are mostly failed academics anyway.
