Liberal Arts: The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago seeks candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 2015. The hire is part of the "Global Urban Immigration" Cluster under the Chancellor's Cluster hiring Initiative www.uic.edu/home/Chancellor/5_8_12.shtml. This search is part of a multiple hire cluster initiative in Global Urban Immigration that is designed to expand interdisciplinarity and diversity at UIC. We are seeking candidates studying the effect of migration on global cities. Topics can include the impact immigrants and immigration have on urban landscapes and culture including suburbs and new gateway cities; the aesthetics and representations of place; the creation and development of global cities; rescaling of cities and migrants; and authority and community in urban spaces, among others. Ideal candidates will be interrogating concepts of right of place, transformation of place and geographies of diversity. We invite applications from interdisciplinary scholars in disciplines and/or areas including Anthropology, Geography, History, Latin American and/or Latino Studies, Gender and Women Studies, Urban Studies, Humanities and Arts and Aesthetics. Scholars whose work relates to major contemporary debates on immigration with a transnational framework are strongly encouraged to apply. Departmental affiliation, including split appointments across units will be negotiable, but the candidate must be appointable in a unit (or units) within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. While geographic concentration in the Western Hemisphere is desired, suitable candidates with alternative geographic areas of interest will be considered. Because the cluster aims at creating a multidisciplinary, eclectic approach to migration studies, the ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to lead cutting-edge research that is innovative and methodologically sound.
