Do the postings on these seem short- they opened on Oct 3rd and reviews begin Oct 15th? Any insights as to why?

My guess is that they'd like to limit the number of applications received.... see this in the private sector all the time...

It can also be an inside job. It happens all the time in academic and non-academic places.

Agreed. Good chance that it is an inside hire.

I can absolutely guarantee you that this is NOT an inside hire. 100% absolutely positive.

Anyone have any idea on the timeline for this position?

I'm in the department and the timeline reflects that intense slowness of the administration/HR process. We didn't find out we could hire until mid-September. The department finalized the job ads in about a week. It took two weeks for HR to approve them and set up the application portals (and that was "fast tracked"). We're intending to make short lists this week and hope to start doing phone interviews the week of 10/27. It will then likely take 100 hundred million years to get campus interviews approved.

Quick update: We've narrowed the crim search down and have sent the request to bring our top choices to campus up the administrative chain. We're meeting November 3rd to narrow down the methods position to our top choices. We're hopeful that the administration will respond quickly and we can start scheduling at least the crim interviews the week of November 3rd-7th.
