Is there anyone who frequents this board who works at an institution that does not grant tenure? I'm interested in the faculty perspective on these alternative systems of promotion. I've run across a few on the job market and when I've spoken with faculty, most seem to like it. These are predominantly teaching institutions, of course. I've been trying to understand if there are specific systems in place or if each institution has their own alternative system.

I have friends who work at one. There is very little possibility for faculty input or governance in the one they are at. Which unfortunately means that the professional admin who run the place have instilled the "student as customer" mentality in most regulations, and so there are things like "you have x number of hours to reply to a student's email." The flip side is that there are no service requirements. No need to serve on endless committees or anything like that.

Some more things I hadn't thought about or hadn't considered asking... Thanks, yes.
