The UAS Department of Social Science invites applications for a tenure-track, assistant professor in Sociology to begin August 2012. Ph.D. in Sociology required.
Tripartite position includes teaching (for example, Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theory, Sociology of Close Relationships, special topics), evidence of commitment to research (grants, publications), and university and public service. A preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated teaching experience. Candidates with training and experience in fields such as environmental sociology, cross-cultural sociology, and/or qualitative methods will be of particular interest.
Annual salary is commensurate with experience and dependent on qualifications for a nine-month appointment. Includes medical and retirement benefits. Position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Position is open until filled; however, first consideration will be given to applications received by December 15, 2011.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to relate sociology to other social science fields.
- Experience working with private and public external constituencies.
- Ability to acquire research funding from external sources.
Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).
Ph.D. in Sociology in hand by August 2012.
Length of time and type of experience required for this position.
Some college level teaching experience is required. Although we are primarily interested in hiring an outstanding educator, this position will also require an active agenda in scholarship and research.
