The Department of Sociology at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applications for two open-rank positions beginning Fall 2015. All applicants must provide evidence of a record of scholarly research and professional publications commensurate with the rank for which the application is made. Applicants are also encouraged to provide evidence of effective teaching and grant activity.
Medical Sociology: The position is open to applicants at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. All applicants must have a Ph.D. in Sociology by August 31, 2015. Successful applicants will have the ability to teach courses in medical sociology. Additional areas of concentration are open. Areas of strength in the department include health, Latino/a studies, and religion. Preference may be given to scholars who can support the quantitative methods courses in the department, though applications from all qualified candidates are welcome.
Public Health: The position is open to applicants at the assistant, associate, or full professor level. All applicants must have a Ph.D. (or Dr. PH) in Public Health by August 31, 2015. Preference will be given to candidates with graduate level training in Sociology and a doctoral degree in Public Health. Successful applicants will have the ability to teach courses in our undergraduate curriculum in Public Health.
To be considered at the tenure-track assistant professor level, successful applicants must be able to articulate a research agenda, have an emerging record of publications, and demonstrate commitments to instructional excellence and departmental service. Ideal candidates will have participated in collaborative research, and will have had prior classroom experience as an instructor of record.
To be considered at the associate or full professor level, successful applicants must have an established research agenda for securing external grants, a strong record of publications, excellent teaching skills with demonstrated effectiveness, and a track record of service. Ideal candidates will have experience leading collaborative research projects, and demonstrate instructional effectiveness at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to include the mentoring of graduate students.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate is required to pursue an active research and publishing agenda, and to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching assignments will be made at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
